Stewart McLean Found Dead in Lions Bay

Investigators from the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team are leading forensic work, reviewing CCTV and seeking public tips to build a timeline of his movements before May 15.

Overview

  • Canada’s Integrated Homicide Investigation Team announced Friday that McLean’s remains were located in the Lions Bay area and his death has been confirmed.
  • McLean was last seen at his Lions Bay residence on May 15 and was reported missing to the Squamish RCMP on May 18, which triggered local searches by Lions Bay Search and Rescue.
  • Squamish RCMP said evidence uncovered during the missing-person probe led them to treat the case as a homicide and IHIT deployed on May 20 to assume conduct of the investigation.
  • Investigators are collecting and analysing physical evidence, reviewing CCTV footage and conducting interviews; police have not released a cause of death, a motive or any suspect information and are asking anyone with tips to contact IHIT.
  • McLean, 45, was a working actor with credits including a recent appearance on Netflix’s Virgin River and his agency and neighbours have issued tributes while the small Lions Bay community processes the loss.
