Overview
- Investigators located and formally identified McLean’s remains in the Lions Bay area on Friday, May 22, after he was reported missing following a last sighting at his home on May 15.
- Canada’s Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) took over the probe on May 20 and is leading forensic work alongside Squamish RCMP, the Integrated Forensic Identification Service and the BC Coroners Service.
- Local search teams, including Lions Bay Search and Rescue, reported finding what they called ‘suspicious evidence’ during searches of Crystal Falls, Tunnel Point, Brunswick Beach and nearby drainages and passed those findings to police.
- Friends, colleagues and McLean’s agency have paid tribute, with an acting coach saying McLean’s failure to show for a scheduled shoot raised immediate alarm and family describing him as kind and well liked.
- Police have not released a cause of death, motive or suspect information and are urging anyone with information to contact IHIT through its public tip line or email as the investigation continues.
