Stellantis Sells 49% NextStar Stake to LG for $100, Ceding Windsor Battery Plant

LG Energy Solution says taking full control will let it reorient the Windsor facility toward energy storage demand.

Overview

  • The sale gives LG Energy Solution full ownership of NextStar Energy, and the plant will continue supplying Stellantis with batteries.
  • Stellantis called the transfer a mutually agreed strategic decision and said it remains a committed customer of the Windsor operation.
  • LG plans to grow the workforce from more than 1,300 employees to as many as 2,500 as production ramps.
  • Over $3.7 billion has been invested in the facility, which began module output in fall 2024 and started mass cell production in November 2025.
  • The move aligns with a wider reshaping of battery ventures, including Stellantis’ Kokomo JV shifting toward storage and GM and Ford revising partnerships with LG Energy Solution and SK On.
