Overview
- Reuters reported advanced talks to co-develop an Opel-badged electric SUV using Leapmotor technology at Stellantis’ Zaragoza plant in Spain.
- People familiar said the Opel would share the Leapmotor B10 architecture with production targeted for 2028 and output near 50,000 vehicles a year.
- Under terms being discussed, Leapmotor would provide electronic and electrical systems and key components while Opel would design the exterior with much of the engineering done in China.
- Stellantis said it is in regular contact with Leapmotor to expand collaboration, while Leapmotor said it is only discussing supply of its own parts and not a platform-level deal.
- Stellantis is also studying the approach for the next Opel Mokka, a possible Alfa Romeo model, and small A-segment cars as Leapmotor readies Spanish production of its own vehicles from October.
