Stellantis, Dongfeng Seal Deal to Build Peugeot and Jeep EVs in China From 2027

A separate Reuters report says the partners may assemble a Voyah model in France to sidestep EU tariffs.

Overview

  • Stellantis and state-owned Dongfeng signed a strategic cooperation that tasks their Wuhan joint-venture plant with producing four “new energy” models starting in 2027 for China and export markets.
  • The program includes two Peugeot models inspired by the Concept 6 and Concept 8 shown in Beijing and two Jeep off-road new-energy vehicles, with total investment above RMB 8 billion and about €130 million from Stellantis.
  • Key details remain open, with vehicle platforms, target export markets, and other terms still subject to implementation agreements and regulatory approvals.
  • Reuters reported, citing sources, that the companies plan a new joint venture to build at least one Voyah-branded electric vehicle at Stellantis’ Rennes plant in France to avoid EU import duties, which neither firm has confirmed.
  • In parallel, Stellantis is expanding its Leapmotor partnership in Europe by evaluating a new line in Zaragoza and a possible Villaverde transfer for around 2028, a move aimed at faster, lower-cost EVs and better use of factory capacity.
