Overview
- A partnership expansion announced Friday confirmed two Spain-made electric models for Stellantis and Leapmotor, with production allocated to Zaragoza and Madrid.
- Figueruelas near Zaragoza is expected to start assembling Leapmotor’s B10 later this year after plant preparations reported to be under way.
- The Zaragoza site will also build an Opel compact electric SUV in 2028 that uses Leapmotor technology and is designed by Opel in Rüsselsheim.
- Stellantis is studying a transfer of part of the Villaverde plant to their joint venture so Madrid can produce Leapmotor’s B05 from around the first half of 2028, shoring up jobs as the Citroën C4 line ends.
- The tie-up adds joint purchasing to tap China’s EV supply chain and a local battery base anchored by a CATL gigafactory next to Figueruelas, while Vigo is excluded from the production plans.
