State Track Meets Produce Records and Breakout Champions in Ohio and Wisconsin

Multiple meet records with surprise podiums followed the OHSAA's move to a five-division format that broadened title access for smaller programs.

  • Early June state championships in Ohio and Wisconsin concluded with several meet and stadium records and dozens of All-Ohio and WIAA podium finishes.
  • Hilliard Davidson senior Anna Wile set Division I meet and Jesse Owens Stadium records in both the 100-meter hurdles (13.24) and the 300-meter hurdles (40.7).
  • Tallmadge seniors Allison Hay and Anthony Bontempo each won Division II individual state titles, with Hay taking the 800 in 2:12.21 and Bontempo claiming the high jump at 6-8.
  • Summit Country Day’s girls 4x100 relay set a Division IV state record (48.59) and Shenandoah’s Braxton Barnett earned four All-Ohio medals with top finishes in hurdles, long jump and high jump.
  • At the WIAA meet in La Crosse, Mishicot’s Juliana Doerner broke the Division 3 girls 200m meet record (24.04) and Marathon’s Chris Marcell reset the shot-put meet mark while winning gold.
