Overview
- The State Department said Tuesday it will issue a limited-edition U.S. passport this July that features President Trump’s portrait and gold signature on an interior page.
- At the Washington, D.C. Passport Agency the special design will be the default for in-person applicants, while online and other offices keep the standard book and DC applicants can request the regular version.
- Media reports put the initial run at roughly 25,000 to 30,000 passports, available by request in Washington and subject to stock, with no added fee reported by officials.
- Officials say the commemorative passports keep the same anti-fraud and security features as current U.S. passports despite the new artwork.
- The move is without modern precedent for U.S. passports and is part of a wider 250th-anniversary push that also includes a proposed coin with Trump’s image and adding his signature to future dollar bills.
