State Audit Finds Serious Mismanagement at Saxony-Anhalt’s Agrimarketing Agency

The case signals a wider push to tighten controls across state-run bodies.

Overview

  • The Landesrechnungshof, which published its findings Friday, said the Agrarmarketinggesellschaft (AMG) granted staff perks barred in the public sector, including private insurance policies, very costly office furniture and an expensive leasing deal.
  • Auditors also reported broken procurement rules, private use of company cars without clear policies, inflated personnel cost billing and major decisions made without proper approval by oversight boards.
  • In response, the ministry canceled insurance contracts and set stricter rules for vehicle use, though a dispute over the pricey furniture persists and auditors did not set a concrete damage figure.
  • The watchdog urged the ministry to seek repayments where rules were breached and to evaluate whether AMG should continue or shift its work to the state’s investment and marketing agency.
  • The report also flagged broader issues, urging new cost-sharing talks for the joint Staßfurt payment-order court after an estimated €1.1 million shortfall for Saxony-Anhalt from 2018 to 2022.
