Standard Chartered Names Manus Costello Interim Group CFO

The move stabilizes finance leadership during a quarter marked by higher profit alongside an Iran-related charge.

Overview

  • Standard Chartered said in a statement that Manus Costello will initially serve as interim group chief financial officer with immediate effect and will join the board subject to regulatory approvals.
  • Costello joined the bank in 2024 as global head of investor relations after about 25 years in equity research, and he will be based in London reporting to CEO Bill Winters.
  • He steps in after Peter Burrill held the finance post on an interim basis following Diego De Giorgi’s departure to Apollo Global Management earlier this year.
  • The appointment comes as the bank reported a 17% year-on-year rise in first-quarter profit and recorded a charge tied to its exposure to Iran that one report put at about $190 million.
  • Crypto Briefing published conflicting accounts about Costello’s status, while the company statement points to an interim role, and the bank also named Tanuj Kapilashrami group COO with immediate effect.
