Standard Chartered Named First Bank Distributor for Hong Kong’s HKDAP Stablecoin

The bank’s appointment links the HKMA‑licensed token into corporate banking and sets Q4 pilots for tokenized fund settlement and internal liquidity tests.

Overview

  • Anchorpoint launched HKDAP in a controlled institutional beta and named Standard Chartered an authorized distributor, a move reported on Aug. 24 that gives eligible corporate and institutional clients a bank channel for minting and redeeming the token.
  • Standard Chartered is Anchorpoint’s largest shareholder and will operate across issuance support, reserve custody in a trustee role, and client distribution, concentrating several operational layers inside one bank.
  • Anchorpoint’s transparency dashboard showed about 522,000 HKDAP in circulation and roughly HK$1.62 million in reported reserves as of Aug. 19, with public third‑party attestations still pending.
  • An independent review by researcher Yajin Zhou flagged weaknesses in the Ethereum contract’s custom approval, upgrade and access‑control architecture and said some compliance controls did not work as expected, though the review found no theft or loss.
  • The next things to watch are named asset‑manager partners and real tokenized fund settlement volumes in the planned Q4 pilots, Anchorpoint’s response to the contract review, and any external reserve attestations as wider access is considered.
