St. Paul Man Charged Over YouTube Videos That Threatened Mayor Kaohly Her

Prosecutors say the videos invoked the June 14, 2025 lawmaker shootings to urge violence, with the case now moved to Hennepin County.

Overview

  • Prosecutors filed one felony count of threats of violence and two gross-misdemeanor counts of harassment against 49-year-old Pao Her Lee, and he is scheduled to appear in court on July 10, 2026.
  • Authorities say the two YouTube videos were posted on June 14, 2025, hours after the shootings that killed Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband and wounded Sen. John Hoffman and his wife.
  • Court documents say the videos included an emailed image showing Kaohly Her and Hortman with bullet holes in their foreheads and a narrator saying, “All three…will be killed,” while blaming Democrats and invoking the Second Amendment.
  • Investigators interviewed Lee in July 2025 and again in December 2025; he denied intent to harm and told investigators he posted the material “to be funny,” according to the complaint.
  • Mayor Her reported feeling terrified for her family after seeing the content, and prosecutors and the Hennepin County attorney framed the charges as a response to how online platforms can amplify targeted threats against public officials.
