Overview
- Salt River Project and Pattern Energy have executed a 20-year power purchase agreement for 600 megawatts of output from the SunZia wind project, with deliveries starting at 400 MW in autumn 2026 and rising to 600 MW by summer 2027.
- The deal will add 600 MW to SRP’s existing 288 MW of wind, increasing its wind resources to about 888 MW and more than tripling wind on its system.
- SunZia pairs a roughly 3,650 MW wind resource with a roughly 550-mile high-voltage DC transmission line that can move large amounts of power across the Southwest and is sized to supply about 1 million homes annually.
- SRP says the purchase fits its ‘all-of-the-above’ strategy to keep power reliable and affordable while cutting carbon, and company leaders view the PPA as a key part of plans to expand capacity over the next decade.
