Overview
- Metacritic’s 16th annual list went live Wednesday, naming Square Enix No. 1, with Gamirror Games, Capcom, Thunderful, and Microsoft rounding out the top five.
- Square Enix released nine non‑mobile games in 2025, all with positive reviews, for an average Metascore of 84, led by Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on PC at 90.
- Microsoft placed fifth with an 80 average, boosted by PS5 ports of Forza Horizon 5 and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, with Bethesda, Activision, and Blizzard titles included.
- Nintendo ranked 12th with a 77 average, 68% of its games rated good, 0% rated bad, and three at 90-plus, while Sony fell to 21st with a 74 average after several low-scoring releases and Destiny 2 expansions weighed on its results.
- Publishers are scored on four factors: weighted average Metascore, share of good titles, share of bad titles, plus bonus points for 90-plus games, which means ports, remasters, and subsidiary labels can materially move a company up or down.
