Square Enix to Show Final Fantasy VII Revelation Footage at Gamescom

Gamescom footage will test whether Square Enix will revise its fiscal forecast based on firm Spring 2027 launch timing.

Overview

  • Square Enix confirmed on Monday that Final Fantasy VII Revelation will get a new look at Gamescom Opening Night Live on August 25, with game director Naoki Hamaguchi presenting footage and commentary.
  • The company has left its full-year financial forecast unchanged after Q2 results, a move analysts read as reducing the odds of a release before March 31, 2027 while leaving a very late-March launch possible under J-GAAP rules.
  • Final Fantasy VII Revelation is officially scheduled for Spring 2027 and will launch simultaneously on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2, ending the remake trilogy begun in 2020.
  • Square Enix says Revelation will feature a larger open world, a hybrid real-time and tactical combat system, new playable characters and abilities, and that the trilogy’s conclusion will be included in the base game.
  • Gamescom on August 25 and the upcoming Tokyo Game Show are the next opportunities for Square Enix to give a firm release date and pre-order details, which would let the company update guidance and let players plan purchases.
