Square Enix to Close Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis on October 6

The publisher says rising production costs and weak demand make continuing the live gacha service untenable and it will wind the game down over the next three months.

Overview

  • Square Enix disclosed Wednesday that Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis will end service on October 6, 2026, and that in-game events and updates will run until the servers go offline.
  • Paid currency sales have already stopped and players may use existing Red Crystals until shutdown while refunds for unused paid currency will be offered only to residents of Taiwan.
  • The company plans to publish a three-part, worldwide release of the long Japan-only mobile title Before Crisis between July and September as part of a final roadmap for the game.
  • Producer Shoichi Ichikawa said the closure stems from difficulty balancing production costs with player demand for character weapons and gear, and Square Enix confirmed account data will be deleted after end-of-service procedures finish.
  • Observers warn the shutdown risks losing unique Final Fantasy VII lore that Ever Crisis hosts, analysts estimate about 3.7 million downloads and roughly $100 million in lifetime revenue, and Square Enix has not announced a preservation or offline-port plan.
