Overview
- Square Enix told attendees at its annual shareholders meeting that a Switch version of Final Fantasy XV is “under consideration” and that hardware constraints make a port challenging but “not completely impossible.”
- Only the scaled-down Pocket Edition HD has appeared on Nintendo’s eShop so far, and the original full FFXV experience has not been released on any Nintendo console.
- Director Hajime Tabata previously said Square Enix investigated a Nintendo port, and the Pocket Edition release suggested the company once judged a full port technically or commercially difficult.
- The remark comes as Square Enix steps up Final Fantasy support for Nintendo’s newer hardware with confirmed Switch 2 releases such as Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster and Final Fantasy XIV Online.
- There is no confirmed development, release plan, or timetable yet, and Square Enix’s technical evaluation will determine whether a full Switch 2 port proceeds and how it could expand the game’s audience.
