Square Enix Confirms Final Fantasy VII: Revelation as Trilogy Finale

Director Naoki Hamaguchi says player choices will change the journey without altering a single canonical ending.

Overview

  • Square Enix revealed Final Fantasy VII: Revelation at Summer Game Fest on Tuesday, announcing it as the third and final chapter with a Spring 2027 release window.
  • Hamaguchi confirmed there will be one definitive ending for the trilogy while saying player choices will alter intermediate beats and side content, giving each player a slightly different path to the same finale.
  • Revelation will expand world access and systems by putting the party on the Highwind for open-planet travel and introducing a new FITs job-like combat system alongside the series' tactical hybrid battles.
  • The game will include returning and new gameplay features such as playable Vincent and Cid, a dress-up system, Knights of the Round, and larger story encounters with Weapons and Meteor, and it will launch simultaneously on PS5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
  • The announcement closes a long-running remake arc that began with Remake in 2020 and continued with Rebirth in 2024, resolving fan debate about branching endings while setting expectations for a faithful but expanded final act.
