Overview

  • The wildfire, which ignited Friday around 11 a.m. near Gilman Springs Road east of Moreno Valley, surged through dry brush before crews slowed its advance.
  • Cal Fire reported 4,176 acres burned and 45% containment early Saturday, up from 25% late Friday after gusts eased overnight.
  • Evacuation orders remain in place for several mapped zones, with a shelter open at Valley View High School, and Gilman Springs Road stays closed between Alessandro Road and Bridge Street.
  • Winds that reached up to 70 mph Friday drove fast growth and heavy smoke visible in Riverside, Perris and Beaumont, while about 260 personnel, two helicopters and 36 engines continue to work the fire.
  • No injuries or structure losses have been reported, the cause is under investigation, and officials note early-season Santa Ana–type winds can turn light grass into fast-moving fire fronts.
