Spring Pattern Brings Mexico Rains and Heat, Argentina Wind Alerts

Official forecasts flag sharp regional contrasts driven by a fast March transition.

Overview

  • Mexico’s national weather service, in its 6 a.m. Tuesday outlook, said an upper-level trough with Pacific and Gulf moisture will drive widespread showers with heavier bursts in Puebla, Veracruz and Oaxaca.
  • The same forecast projected Cold Front 42 reaching the northern border through Tuesday, bringing strong gusts and a cooler push along the U.S.–Mexico line.
  • Afternoon heat remains intense in parts of the north and west, with highs of 40–45°C in areas such as eastern Sonora and nearby states and 35–40°C across several western and southern zones.
  • On the cold side, mountain areas in Chihuahua, Durango, Estado de México, Hidalgo, Tlaxcala and Puebla face early Tuesday frosts with lows from −5 to 0°C.
  • Argentina’s weather service kept yellow alerts Tuesday for storms in Formosa and Misiones and for strong winds and zonda in Mendoza, San Luis, Chubut, Santa Cruz and Tierra del Fuego, with gusts near 110 km/h, as Buenos Aires stays clear and mild around 11–23°C.
