Overview
- Spotify announced the new “AI Persona” label on Tuesday and plans to begin showing it on some artist pages starting mid-September 2026.
- The label will mark profiles whose public identity appears to be generated by AI rather than a real person, and music from labeled profiles will be excluded by default from Spotify’s editorial and algorithmic recommendations.
- Spotify will add tags using a mix of artist self-declaration through Spotify for Artists and proactive review by a Spotify review team, and artists will be notified when a label is applied and given a chance to identify or appeal.
- The company will roll the feature out first to higher-audience profiles so the tags cover most visited artist pages, and listeners will be able to report profiles they suspect are AI Personas for platform review.
- Spotify frames the label as part of a broader transparency push that follows Verified by Spotify, SongDNA and AI Credits and aims to help users tell synthetic identities from artists building real careers.
