Spotify Lets U.S. and U.K. Android Users Buy Physical Books Through Bookshop.org

The move links audiobook discovery to print sales supporting independent bookstores.

Overview

  • Spotify, which switched on the Bookshop.org integration Wednesday, now lets U.S. and U.K. Android users buy printed books from audiobook pages.
  • A “Get a copy for your bookshelf” button opens Bookshop.org, which handles pricing, stock, and shipping for each order.
  • iOS support is due next week, and Spotify also rolled out Audiobook Recaps on Android plus new charts in Germany and a Kids & Family chart in the U.S. and U.K.
  • Page Match now supports more than 30 additional languages, and Spotify says users who try it stream 55% more audiobook hours weekly, with 62% of matched titles new to them.
  • Spotify reports an audiobook catalog of over 700,000 titles in 22 markets and 751 million monthly users, which it says can boost discovery for authors and local bookshops.
