Sphere’s ‘Wizard of Oz’ Tops 2 Million Tickets, Fuels Push for Smaller D.C.-Area Venue

Its outsized sales are steering Sphere toward a smaller, partner-funded venue model.

Overview

  • Sphere Entertainment said the Las Vegas Wizard of Oz show has sold more than 2 million tickets since its Aug. 28 debut, generating over $260 million in sales.
  • A 6,000-seat Sphere at National Harbor near Washington, D.C. is planned with an estimated $1 billion cost and roughly $200 million in incentives, in partnership with Maryland, Prince George’s County and Peterson Companies.
  • J.P. Morgan estimates Sphere Experiences produced about $333 million in 2025 revenue, nearly double concerts at $188 million, with advertising and sponsorships at $95 million.
  • An Abu Dhabi franchise is proceeding under a partner-funded model in which the government finances construction and pays fees for Sphere technology, patents and licensed content.
  • An “Oz 2.0” upgrade is being prepared for the show’s first anniversary with new effects teased by CEO James Dolan, as the Las Vegas venue ranked No. 1 globally by Billboard and Pollstar in 2025.
