Spanish Police Capture Fugitive Wanted by Poland in Tenerife

The EU arrest warrant system enabled months of joint work that leads to a fast handover to Polish courts.

Overview

  • Police in Arona detained the man on Wednesday as he walked his dog a few meters from his door, with the GOES tactical unit making the arrest and no one hurt.
  • Poland sought him on more than 40 alleged offenses including crimes against persons, drug trafficking, fraud, and illegal weapons, with an aggregated maximum of 485 years reported.
  • The search began in September 2025 after a Polish request for help, and investigators placed him in Arona, where he lived with his wife and two children.
  • He twice slipped away before the capture, first by leaping from a rear balcony about five meters high and later in February by fleeing a traffic stop with false papers and ramming cars as he sped off.
  • Officers say he chose the first house on a cul‑de‑sac and kept the door open to aid escape, and he is now in Spanish custody under the European Arrest Warrant process, which lets EU states transfer suspects quickly.
