Spain’s RFEDA Backs RMC Motorsport to Build 2027 WRC Rally1 Car

The move signals that the FIA’s cost-capped rules are attracting independent constructors to the top class.

Overview

  • The FIA announced Thursday that Spain’s federation RFEDA will partner with RMC Motorsport to design and build a Rally1 car for the World Rally Championship’s 2027 rule set.
  • RFEDA becomes the first FIA member club to actively support a constructor’s entry, a step it says will bolster Spain’s motorsport engineering base and open clearer paths for Spanish drivers.
  • The WRC27 rules cap each car at €345,000 and require a tubular safety cell, double-wishbone suspension, four-wheel drive and a 1.6-litre turbo engine that runs on sustainable fuel.
  • Championship entry remains contingent on completing the programme and passing FIA homologation, with media reports noting a requirement to produce about 10 customer cars for sale to private teams.
  • RMC says design work is under way, with a first rollout targeted for October 2026 and a partial WRC programme planned for 2027 ahead of a full season in 2028.
