Spain’s Catholic Church Sets Record €429.3 Million From IRPF ‘X’ in 2024 Campaign

Provisional figures highlight more declarations alongside a slight share decline driven by more blank returns.

  • Declarations in favor of the Church rose to 7,946,347, up 106,363 year over year, representing more than nine million people when joint filings are counted.
  • Roughly 30% of taxpayers assigned the Church option as blank returns approached 40% and increased by 1.09%, nudging the Church’s share down about 0.34 points.
  • Andalusia led in absolute support with 1,645,482 selections and €64.28 million, as national totals reached a record €429,335,080.
  • Regional increases included €22.3 million in Castilla y León (+12.1%, 560,310 declarations) and €16.71 million in Galicia (+17.1%, 349,903 declarations).
  • Top percentage regions remained Castilla-La Mancha (42.6%), Extremadura (42.1%), La Rioja (41.9%) and Murcia (41.3%), with declines concentrated in Navarra and the foral tax authorities of Bizkaia and Álava; the Church launched a “Más de 9 millones de gracias” campaign to thank contributors.
