Overview
- On Tuesday the general secretaries of CCOO and UGT announced coordinated resistance funds to pay strike participants over the next two years and said they will guarantee at least the daily equivalent of the minimum wage for each day of strike participation.
- The unions set a firm deadline requiring the government to approve and publish a new registro de jornada by July 31 or they will refuse to take part in further negotiated deals with the Executive during this legislature.
- Press accounts differ on the funds’ size and structure, with one report saying a single coordinated instrument totals €4 million and another saying each union will control its own €4 million fund, together amounting to €8 million.
- Separately, the Conselleria de Educación in the Comunidad Valenciana and teacher unions will meet weekly through July to try to agree a draft decree that would cut weekly teacher hours from 37.5 to 35 and reduce centre dedication from 30 to 28 to avert reactivating an indefinite strike.
- The dispute follows months of delays tied to divisions between the Labour and Economy ministries and a negative Consejo de Estado opinion, and the unions say the funds and ultimatum are meant to put practical pressure on the Executive to publish agreed labour measures in the BOE.
