Spain Suspends Saturday Lotería Nacional Ahead of Monday’s Christmas Draw

The Dec. 22 Teatro Real event will hand out €2.772 billion under tax thresholds that allow prize seizures for unpaid debts.

  • Prizes up to €40,000 are tax‑exempt, and amounts from €40,001 carry a 20% withholding, with small wins (≤€2,500) payable at lottery administrations and larger claims processed through banks with ID.
  • The Tax Agency can seize part or all of a prize to settle winners’ outstanding public debts, subject to the amount necessary to cover the liability.
