Spain Jails Dutch Fugitive Pending Extradition After Rescue of Four Minors

The Audiencia Nacional ordered pre-trial detention under a European Arrest Warrant over alleged child exploitation, trafficking, kidnapping, among other crimes.

Overview

  • Guardia Civil officers arrested the woman in Alcossebre after locating her apartment and stopping her near the address with two minors in a vehicle.
  • Four youths aged 12 to 17 were rescued in good condition and placed in a provincial reception center until Dutch authorities take custody.
  • Dutch prosecutors issued the warrant citing alleged child exploitation, human trafficking, possession of child sexual material, kidnapping, unlawful detention, hostage-taking, drug offenses, and child abandonment.
  • The investigation began on December 7 when local police in Alcalà de Xivert found a 13-year-old girl and a 17-year-old boy who reported being left behind by the woman.
  • Authorities determined she had lost custody of her two children and fled the Netherlands with them and two youths from a care center, with extradition proceedings now overseen by Spain’s national court.
