Spain Formally Grants Stellantis Vigo 100 MW of High-Voltage Grid Access

The award secures direct transmission access to reduce outages, enabling electrification at the Vigo plant.

Overview

  • Miteco’s BOE resolution assigns 100 MW at the Nuevo Vigo node to the Balaídos factory after rival applicants were excluded for lacking required documentation.
  • Stellantis declares a €16.95 million electrification investment linked to the access, with an estimated reduction of 2,006 tonnes of CO2.
  • The access contract is scheduled up to 57 months after permits, with operation dependent on Red Eléctrica’s new 220 kV substation and the Atios–Pazos de Borbén connection.
  • Vigo’s Zona Franca plans about €20 million for a 3,800 m² transformation center to be leased to Stellantis to ready the site for high-voltage service.
  • Nationally, the contest awards 928 MW across five nodes tied to €3.105 billion of investment, using criteria prioritizing emissions cuts, capital spending and start dates.
