Spain Authorizes €356.7 Million Tender for Two Burgos–Vitoria High-Speed Line Sections

The project advances a key Atlantic Corridor connection that will bring the Basque network into Spain’s high-speed system.

Overview

  • Council of Ministers approval allows Adif to tender platform works for the 16.7 km Burgos rail bypass–Valle de las Navas section and the 7 km Manzanos–La Puebla de Arganzón section, budgeted at €131.55 million and €225.17 million respectively (excl. VAT).
  • The new contracts cover earthworks and major structures, with later phases set to install double standard-gauge track, electrification, signalling and telecommunications.
  • The Manzanos–La Puebla stretch includes seven viaducts, highlighted by a Zadorra River crossing over 1 km long and more than 50 m high with a 222 m concrete arch over the river, the Madrid–Hendaye line, the N‑I and the A‑1.
  • Three of the seven platform segments are now moving forward, including the PancorboAmeyugo works awarded last July with a €391 million budget (VAT included) and comprising about 77% tunnels and viaducts.
  • Adif is finalising designs for the remaining four sections to ready their procurement and build out the full Burgos–Vitoria corridor.
