SpaceX Says AI Will Become Its Largest Revenue Source as It Targets 10 GW of Compute

Company leaders say heavy recent AI spending can be quickly turned into third-party rentals and software revenue, a shift that would reshape SpaceX’s business model.

Overview

  • Elon Musk told employees that SpaceX’s AI revenue will exceed all other company revenue likely next month and will be far larger in the fourth quarter.
  • Musk set a target to bring 10 gigawatts of AI compute online by the end of next year and estimated 10 GW could generate roughly $300 to $500 billion in annual revenue if realized.
  • SpaceX currently operates about 1.4 GW of GPU capacity and already rents that compute to other AI labs and tech firms, with reported customer relationships including Anthropic, Google, and Reflection AI.
  • The company reported heavy near-term AI infrastructure spending in the quarter and its CFO said new deployments can pay back within a year because capacity is being monetized quickly.
  • Beyond raw compute rentals, SpaceX plans to layer higher-margin products such as Grok subscriptions, X advertising and data services, and integrations like Cursor, while pursuing longer-term hardware and orbital ambitions.
