Overview
- Soyuz MS-28 is scheduled to undock from the ISS’s Rassvet module at 3:02 a.m. EDT and make a parachute-assisted landing in Kazakhstan at 6:26 a.m. EDT on Sunday, July 26.
- The three returning crewmembers are NASA astronaut Chris Williams and Roscosmos cosmonauts Sergey Kud-Sverchkov and Sergei Mikaev, who will complete a 241-day mission that logged 3,856 orbits and more than 102 million miles.
- NASA will stream live coverage of farewells, hatch closure, undocking, the deorbit burn and landing on its platforms, with coverage windows published in the agency’s schedule.
- After touchdown recovery teams will fly the crew by helicopter to Karaganda, Kazakhstan, then Williams will return to Johnson Space Center in Houston while Kud-Sverchkov and Mikaev travel to Star City, Russia.
- The return triggers a change of command to NASA astronaut Jessica Meir for Expedition 75 and comes after recent station work such as the June 30 Canadarm2 repair and the July 14 Soyuz MS-29 arrival while NASA advances commercial low-Earth-orbit plans ahead of the ISS decommissioning target now set for 2030.
