Overview

  • The special-livery Boeing 737 MAX 8 entered service Wednesday on a Dallas to Philadelphia flight that launches Southwest’s America250 campaign presence.
  • Southwest named America250’s America Gives as a signature cause and committed up to $250,000 through a new We Serve Together grant for nonprofits supported by its employees.
  • Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy attended Monday’s unveiling, and reporters at the event quoted him as saying he has been asking airlines to consider buying Spirit Airlines.
  • The jet carries registration N1776R and features a red, white and blue scheme with “1776,” the phrase “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness,” 13 stars, Betsy Ross–style engine star circles, and America250 decals.
  • Independence One joins Freedom One (2021) and the newly updated Liberty One as a trio of patriotic aircraft expected to appear at semiquincentennial events while flying regular routes.
