Overview
- Southwest Airlines launched the Global Innovation Centre in Hyderabad, which was inaugurated Wednesday by Telangana IT minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu.
- The facility operates through Southwest Airlines India Private Limited and supports technology, engineering, cybersecurity, AI, analytics, and digital operations for the airline’s global network.
- The company plans to grow the office to more than 1,000 engineers and technology staff over the coming years to advance AI/ML, data science, digital engineering, enterprise platforms, and next-generation product work.
- State leaders said the move reinforces Hyderabad’s rise as a center for aviation and deep tech, citing defence research bodies such as DRDO, RCI, and DMRL that help anchor specialized talent.
- Southwest CIO Lauren Woods said Hyderabad offers a strong pool in analytics and engineering, a pull that has also drawn other multinationals to open in-house capability centers in the city.
