Southwest, Frontier and Breeze Expand to Replace Spirit at Orlando

The additions target summer demand to preserve key leisure traffic.

Overview

  • Spirit Airlines, which ceased operations on May 2nd, erased a large share of low-cost Orlando flights and set off a rapid push by rivals to restore capacity.
  • Southwest announced its largest-ever Orlando schedule with three new nonstop routes and higher frequency on 17 existing routes beginning this summer.
  • The airline also outlined plans for more than 200 daily Orlando departures in 2027 and listed future routes to St. Thomas, St. Maarten, San Jose, and several U.S. cities.
  • Frontier said it will add nine routes and 15 daily departures from Orlando this summer to cover 18 markets that Spirit previously served.
  • Breeze will launch a daily OrlandoAtlantic City nonstop on July 3, and Avianca seeks year-round daily OrlandoMedellín service pending government approvals.
