Southwest Cards Offer Limited-Time 80,000–90,000-Point Welcome Bonuses

The bigger bonuses can fast-track qualification for the Southwest Companion Pass by adding qualifying Rapid Rewards points to cardholders' totals.

Overview

  • CNBC reported that three consumer Southwest Rapid Rewards cards have temporary increased welcome bonuses in the roughly 80,000–90,000 point range.
  • The Priority card’s advertised offer is 90,000 bonus points after $3,000 in three months and the Premier card’s offer is 85,000 after $2,000 in three months, according to the report.
  • Welcome bonus points and points earned on these Southwest consumer cards count as Companion Pass qualifying points, which feed into the program’s requirement of 135,000 qualifying points or 100 qualifying one-way flights.
  • Applicants face limits: you cannot currently hold a Southwest consumer card or have received its consumer welcome bonus in the prior 24 months, approvals are subject to Chase’s 5/24 guideline, and a good-to-excellent credit score is typically needed.
  • Transferred points from other programs do not count toward the Companion Pass, so these consumer card bonuses are more useful for that goal than using flexible transfer cards even though those alternatives can offer larger raw point totals.
