SOUTHCOM Says Lethal Strike on Suspected Drug Boat in Eastern Pacific Kills Three

The strike is one in a U.S. push against suspected drug boats reported to have killed more than 180 people.

Overview

  • U.S. Southern Command said Joint Task Force Lanza del Sur carried out a “kinetic lethal” attack on a small vessel in the eastern Pacific that left three men dead.
  • SOUTHCOM described the dead as “narcoterrorists” and said the boat was operated by groups it labels Designated Terrorist Organizations.
  • The command said the vessel was moving along known drug‑trafficking routes and was taking part in smuggling operations.
  • SOUTHCOM reported no injuries to U.S. personnel and gave no information on survivors from the targeted boat.
  • The operation was directed by commander General Francis Donovan and was presented as part of a campaign launched in late 2025 under President Donald Trump that reporting says has caused more than 180 deaths.
