Southampton Rapist Gets 10-Year Sentence for Attack on Vulnerable Woman

The case turned on CCTV, a voicemail recording, a DNA match made more than two years later.

Overview

  • Musafar Hotak, 25, was convicted at Southampton Crown Court of rape and assault by penetration and sentenced to 10 years in prison with a further four-year extended licence period.
  • Judge Gary Lucie called him a danger to the public, imposed a lifelong restraining order and lifetime sex-offender registration, and said the Home Office will consider deportation.
  • CCTV captured Hotak approaching the intoxicated victim and leading her from the city centre to a family member’s flat where the assault occurred.
  • A voicemail from the victim’s phone recorded her telling Hotak to stop, evidence presented alongside eyewitness accounts.
  • Forensic swabs taken at a Sexual Assault Referral Centre were matched to Hotak’s DNA more than two years later after he initially denied involvement, blamed relatives, offered false alibis, and later claimed consent; the victim’s statement detailed severe, lasting psychological harm.
