South Philly Mass Shooting Suspect Surrenders to Face Murder Counts

The surrender positions prosecutors to test reinstated murder charges built on video and phone data.

Overview

  • Christopher Battle, who surrendered Thursday at Philadelphia police headquarters, now faces first-degree murder, attempted murder, aggravated assault, conspiracy and firearms charges.
  • The July 7, 2025 block party on South Etting Street turned chaotic after a loud pop spooked the crowd and more than a dozen people opened fire, killing three and wounding others.
  • Investigators say at least 15 people fired guns and they traced participants through surveillance video, social media posts and messages, and cell phone data.
  • A Municipal Court judge downgraded charges in January, but a Common Pleas judge earlier this month restored the original counts that include first-degree murder and attempted murder.
  • Four others are charged — Daquan Brown, Terrell Frazier, Brandon Fisher and Dieve Jardine — and the medical examiner is still reviewing whether a later death of a wounded 19-year-old is linked to the shooting.
