South Korea Confirms Second Foot-and-Mouth Disease Case in Goyang

Officials respond with a 24-hour standstill alongside emergency vaccinations across nearby cities.

Overview

  • Quarantine and epidemiologic teams were dispatched to the Goyang cattle farm, with 133 hanwoo scheduled for culling.
  • A 24-hour standstill applies to workers and vehicles accessing farms and livestock facilities in areas adjacent to Goyang, including Seoul.
  • Emergency vaccinations and clinical tests are planned for about 200,000 animals at 1,092 farms in Goyang, Paju, Yangju and Seoul.
  • Since November 2025, authorities have confirmed 65 major livestock disease cases nationwide: 46 highly pathogenic avian influenza, 17 African swine fever and two foot-and-mouth disease.
  • Separate AI and ASF outbreaks persist across multiple provinces, prompting large poultry culls in South Jeolla and tighter biosecurity for ASF because no vaccine exists.
