Overview
- Netflix announced Tuesday that Sony Pictures Entertainment will handle international theatrical distribution for Greta Gerwig’s The Magician’s Nephew while Netflix will manage the film’s domestic release and its streaming debut.
- The film will open with IMAX-exclusive previews on February 10, 2027, roll out in theaters worldwide on February 12, 2027, and begin streaming on Netflix on April 2, 2027.
- Netflix said the North American release will be wide, playing in major chains including AMC, Regal, Cinemark, Cineplex, Marcus and Harkins as well as thousands of regional and independent theaters.
- Greta Gerwig wrote and directed the first screen adaptation of C.S. Lewis’s 1955 novel, which stars newcomers David McKenna and Beatrice Campbell alongside Emma Mackey, Carey Mulligan, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, Daniel Craig and Meryl Streep.
- The move builds on a January $7 billion-plus Pay-1 licensing deal between Sony and Netflix and reflects Netflix’s growing use of wide theatrical windows for select films following initial box-office tests last year.
