Overview
- The PlayStation Portal system software version 7.1.7 is rolling out to devices, with publishers reporting the update on Sept. 24–25, 2026.
- After installing 7.1.7 the Portal will charge to 80% by default, a software cap Sony describes as a measure to preserve battery performance and stability over time.
- Users can change the charge limit at Settings > System > Battery, but Sony warns that choosing a limit above 80% may harm long-term battery health and affect device stability.
- Sony instructs owners to update the PlayStation Link device firmware by connecting it to a PS5 or a PC with the PlayStation Link USB adapter and has also issued firmware for the Pulse Elite headset to maintain accessory compatibility.
- The update also bundles general performance, stability and usability fixes, and it addresses a common user concern because the Portal’s battery typically runs about five to seven hours depending on use, so the cap aims to extend real-world device lifespan.
