Sony Rolls Out Global PlayStation Portal Update With 1080p High Quality Mode

Sony says the upgrade responds to rising cloud usage alongside increased PlayStation Plus Premium adoption.

Overview

  • The system software update begins global deployment on March 17 in PDT regions and March 18 in CET and JST regions.
  • A new selectable 1080p High Quality mode raises streaming bitrate for both Remote Play and Cloud Streaming compared with the default 1080p Standard setting.
  • Players can enable the mode via Quick Menu > Max Resolution > 1080p High Quality, with the change taking effect after restarting the streaming session.
  • Cloud Streaming sees UI refinements including bundle-specific game selection, clearer in-session game-invite alerts, richer trophy notifications, and a faster search screen with immediate keyboard.
  • Sony reports Cloud Streaming monthly users rose 162% year over year in January and says more than half of Portal owners subscribe to PlayStation Plus Premium.
