Overview
- Sony disclosed Thursday that PlayStation Plus subscription rates have increased for new customers across Essential, Extra and Premium/Deluxe tiers in several markets and the new pricing is live on PlayStation storefronts.
- In India the revised rates published on May 21 include Essential at Rs 649/month (was Rs 499) and Rs 5,139/year (was Rs 3,949), Extra at Rs 979/month and Rs 8,709/year, and Deluxe at Rs 1,109/month and Rs 9,879/year.
- Existing subscribers in India will generally keep their current price until their next billing cycle on or after July 19 but any change to a plan or an early modification will move their account to the new rates immediately.
- Reporting shows the increases also affect Extra and Premium tiers in the UK, US and EU with higher monthly and multi-month charges while some annual plans that were raised in 2023 remain unchanged for now.
- Analysts link Sony’s rationale to higher component and cloud costs and inflation, and the move could push some users to reassess renewals or plan choices while boosting PlayStation’s subscription revenue over time.
