Overview
- Sony emailed public beta participants a new PS5 system software beta that testers can download and install now, with the notices sent on Thursday, Aug. 6, 2026.
- The update turns on the setting 'Enhance PSSR Image Quality' by default on PS5 Pro so the console will use the newer PSSR upscaler across games that still ship with the older PSSR.
- PSSR stands for PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution and it is the PS5 Pro’s upscaling tech that improves image sharpness and clarity without each game needing its own patch.
- A region-limited 'Turn Off Bluetooth' option is included for esports and venue use but it stops the console entering rest mode and disables HDMI link while active, a trade-off Sony warns about.
- The beta also bundles routine performance and stability fixes, and Sony will use feedback from testers to decide when or how to roll the Pro changes out to all users.
