Sonam Wangchuk’s Wife Meets Him in Jodhpur Jail, Vows to Challenge NSA Detention

The Supreme Court has sought responses on her habeas petition with a hearing set for October 14.

Overview

  • Gitanjali J Angmo met Wangchuk on October 7 in Jodhpur Central Jail and said his spirit remains undaunted as his legal team obtained the detention order.
  • Angmo alleged the order misquoted and mistranslated his Ladakhi talks to fit an anti-national narrative and called the charges frivolous to be contested in court.
  • The Supreme Court issued notices to the Centre and Ladakh administration on her plea, directed permissible medical attention, and noted the Solicitor General’s claim that grounds were served to Wangchuk.
  • Wangchuk has been held under the National Security Act since September 26 after Leh unrest that left four dead and about 90 injured, having been moved via Delhi to Jodhpur jail.
  • His lawyer said Wangchuk wants an independent judicial inquiry into the killings and is prepared to remain in custody until then, as authorities accuse him of incitement and a police claim of a Pakistani link was earlier refuted by his wife.
