Overview
- Police arrested Francisco Tomás Fernández Cortés, known as El Ico, after he entered Son Llàtzer emergency with a pistol and threatened people and then fled by car.
- Officers pursued his vehicle into the Son Banya settlement, drew their service weapons for safety and found a bloodied firearm in the car while the detainee showed wounds to his arms.
- He is held on suspicion of public disorder, illegal weapons possession and road-safety offenses and was brought before court where he said the pistol was a blank-firing gun; that claim has not been verified.
- The Policía Nacional’s Grupo de Atracos leads the investigation and Policía Científica has taken the weapon for forensic tests to determine whether it is real and whether it ties to reported gunfire hours earlier in Son Banya.
- The episode halted emergency services at Son Llàtzer briefly and adds to a long pattern of violence linked to El Ico and his family, who are long-time residents of Son Banya and have a documented criminal past.
