Overview
- The incident occurred shortly before 1am on Thursday when emergency services found a man in his 60s outside a partly alight home in Glenmore Park with significant burns and other injuries.
- Fire and Rescue NSW extinguished the blaze and paramedics treated a 36-year-old man for minor hand and foot injuries before he was taken to Nepean Hospital under police guard.
- Police arrested the 36-year-old in a car in Werrington about 6:45am and later charged him with murder; he has been refused bail and is due to appear at Penrith Local Court.
- Nepean police say the front door had been forced and an accelerant appears to have been used, and detectives have established a crime scene and begun forensic examination to determine the cause of death.
- Officers described the scene as distressing, confirmed the men were related and urged anyone with information, CCTV or dashcam footage to contact Nepean Police Area Command or Crime Stoppers.
