- A staff member found a personal makeup-style bag on campus and handed it to the school resource officer after seeing a small plastic bag with an unknown substance inside.
- The school resource officer identified the substance as methamphetamine and investigators later tied ownership to 55-year-old teacher Deana Flynn Salter, who was arrested at the school.
- Yuma County Narcotics Task Force agents took over the probe and reported the bag contained about 4.35 grams of meth, evidence used to book Salter on multiple charges.
